Description:

Lacy leaves/needles that do not resemble coast redwoods or giant sequoia in any way. Many side limbs that emerge horizontally from the main trunk. A deciduous conifer.

Habitat:

Finnerty Garden at the Univ. of Victoria

Notes:

Native to China.

It's odd isn't it? So ornamentals like this one have to have been planted well after 1941. Victoria is relatively warm & in the rain shadow of the island; apparently it's pretty good growing conditions because the tree is doing well.

It was believed to be extinct until 1941, and only survived in a remote corner of the Sichuan province. Which incidentally does not have the ideal growing conditions, leaving the trees there stunted.
