Wompoo Fruit-Dove

Ptilinopus magnificus

Description:

Sorry, I know these shots are not clear, but I think this spot is worth adding. These birds are really quite large, almost 50cm. The back & wings are green with a prominent yellow wing-bar & the head is grey. The breast is purple & & abdomen yellow.

Habitat:

Spotted high in the canopy of the rainforest, we heard these birds before we saw them. They were causing quite a racket in the trees above. Their 'wollack-wa-hoo' call could be heard all through the forest. Hopefully I can get clearer shots next time. Cape Hillsborough National Park.
