Fall Webworm

Hyphantria cunea

Description:

Fall webworm protecting a Braconid wasp cocoon

Habitat:

Deciduous woods, rural area, Clermont County

Notes:

I can't determine what type of Braconid wasp this little cocoon belongs to, but from my understanding, some species of Braconids actually change the brain chemistry of their host and compel it to use its own silk to protect the wasp cocoon. Pretty sad for the caterpillar, but pretty fascinating.
