Psittacula cyanocephala
This species is dimorphic. Females have a dull blue-grey coloured head. Like most parakeets, the colour is primarily green, with varying shades on the breast, abdomen, back, and wings. Females also have have yellow tinged feathers around their necks. They lack the red spot on the wings and their beaks are dull yellow; not orangish as in the males.
On a leafless Plumeria tree, gorging on marigold (Tagetes) seeds. This is my office garden in New Delhi.
The males were more in number and were plundering the blooms but the females were feeding too. Interestingly, a Whitebreasted Kingfisher joined the party and fed on the petals these birds strewed on the lawn...I did not know Kingfishers were vegetarians too.
