Wire-coral goby

Bryaninops yongei

Description:

This one was about 15 mm in lenght but species can grow to about 3-35 cm. The whip coral goby has a semi-transparent head and body. I has pink to violet-red eyes.

Habitat:

Widely distributed from the tropical and subtropical waters of the Indian and Pacific Ocean. Whip coral gobies usually live in pairs in association with the wire coral species at depths of between 3 to 45 metres. The gobies will eliminate algae toxic to coral from their environment and will also clean mucus build-ups off of coral.
