Nepita conferta
I found some egg like structures on this vacated footman moth cocoon (https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/12...). I was not sure if they were eggs. After few days when I rechecked it.. found these tiny caterpillars/larva :)
I love the way the yellowish hairs on the cocoon get a woven look (as in your earlier spotting) . Well done Raksha.
Confirming the life cycle as that of footman moth Nepita conferta . https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/12...
Updating picture of the Caterpillar after a week...as well as linking two stories together as it is the life cycle of the same moth.
Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
Many species of footman moths build pupal cages.
The remnants still visible in that link do look similar however.
Hi ornithoptera80...
If you're certain enough to put up a species level ID suggestion please give a reference that proves to species. Generalised google search links don't make the grade sorry.
Thanks for your persistence in checking back to see what would happen! Neat spotting!
