Shark Eye Snail

Neverita duplicata

Description:

A small, predatory moon snail that feeds on bivalve gastropods by drilling a small hole through the shell to feed.

Habitat:

Water's edge on Fort Myers Beach.

Notes:

This is the only live Shark Eye snail that I found. The rest were just the shells washed up on shore.

Thanks Mark and Sergio! Glad I got to see this one alive, as it was the only one.

The center of thecoil looks like an eye! And now I know why I find so many punctured shells in the beach! Thanks for sharing this.

Excellent common name for it. A live one is a super bonus.
