Hi @pkramer1940, it was in Tortuga Bay on Santa Cruz Island. I think you're right, I looked it up and came across this one : http://www.pbase.com/wmarissen/image/977... . They look very similar...

On which island did youtake the picture? - It's probably the Small Groundfinch, Geospiza fuliginosa, but I can not be sure.

Hi @Liam, I'm afraid not. I realise now that the beak profile is most important to specify the exact type of Finch...

I do have another picture of a finch taken nearby that day, and I am pretty sure it was the same type. I will post that picture as well, I believe it has the beak in profile.
