Odocoileus virginianus texanus
This new born fawn was introduced to me today. I was quite surprised as it is the second new born fawn entrusted me this month. I feel very honored when the mothers trust me enough to give birth and leave their babies near me. ")
There is a vacant house with a decent lot next door to me and the mothers seem very comfortable there. On the other side is a large lot but the house is occupied. It is a common trail for all of the deer.

I had heard on the news that their bodies shut down during hard droughts and they aren't able to get pregnant. Last year, I don't recall any new borns. Maybe it's a sign of good things to come.
You're right; they normally give birth in mid- to late spring. A couple does in my neighborhood also had late births this year.
Well thank you, Maria. It is a special moment. I think that another doe is about to give birth at any moment. I was thinking that it seems a bit late in the year for the doe's to be birthing.
So glad you are able to experience this!
Thanks Ava a Maria dB.... It was so cute yesterday when the little one ran up to the fence to say hi and then back to it's mom.
This is such a tender series of photos.
It's thrilling when that happens!
