Dendragapus fuliginosus
Large Grouse species. The male is mostly a dark brown and the female a lighter brown. They resemble large quail or chicken. Their feet thick and big, bills are small. These birds are well camouflage by the faint pattern of white specks on their feathers. They also will stand very still for long periods of time.
Mountain forests habitats. Winter they can found mostly in coniferous forests. Breeding season they could be found in open grasslands in what is called Leks where the males will compete and entice females.
