There were a lot of these bushes in this sandy, otherwise barren looking area.
The ground around it was carpeted in thick lichen (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/136...). Sandy pine and oak forest in the Withlacoochee State Forest Citrus A Tract
Its habitat is important for the endangered Florida Sand Skink in central Florida.
