Florida Softshell Turtle

Apalone ferox

Description:

Large turtle with what looks like a large light brown fleshy shell. The nose is long and looks like a snorkel. It is carnivorous, consuming fish, insects, crustaceans, and mollusks.

Habitat:

The Florida softshell turtle can be found in lakes, streams, canals, and roadside ditches of Florida, southern Georgia and southeastern South Carolina.

Notes:

Spotted near Grassy Pond in Lake Park, GA.
