Ceylon Birdwing Butterfly

Troides darsius

Description:

Restless. Large. Black forewing. Hindwings bright yellow and black. Touch of red on body.

Habitat:

I was quite foxed to see it on a Bougainvillea...always thought these tiny flowers were all show (with coloured bract) and no nectar. This was just opposite the Ravana Falls and right on the road.

Notes:

One of the largest butterflies of Sri Lanka. Also called Sri Lankan Birdwing.
