A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Geocoris sp.
A very small wide headed bug maybe 10mm long. Very flat bodied with half clear and half hard (scleritized) wings. Moving very quickly up the trunk of a large suburban eucalyptus.
Suburban reserve.
It moved so quickly I only got one shot. Thanks to martinl for the ID. Family Lygaeidae
This is a typical true bug pattern. Hemiptera meaning half - wing refers to half of the wing being scleritized http://www.sccs.swarthmore.edu/users/03/... and the end half of the wing being a transparent membrane. Such insects develop their wings on the final molt. Therefore this bug is already an adult. Actually, only one insect species is known to have a second molt as a winged insect and this is the mayfly. Bizarre.
