My guess would be that they are female Common Eiders. The speckling of white through their feathers matches that of what would be seen on the Eiders. Their beaks are also a greyish color which would also be a sign of the female Eider. Eiders are also a year round bird in Maine, which would give it an even better chance of being that kind of bird. Hope this helps! :)
