Somateria mollissima
Two adults and four ducklings
Seashore at Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park
My guess would be that they are female Common Eiders. The speckling of white through their feathers matches that of what would be seen on the Eiders. Their beaks are also a greyish color which would also be a sign of the female Eider. Eiders are also a year round bird in Maine, which would give it an even better chance of being that kind of bird. Hope this helps! :)
