Raccoon

Description:

This is a Raccoon I spotted in British Columbia about two years ago. I found him in Stanley park, probably looking for food. Raccoons will eat almost anything. In a places full of people like national parks, there are no predators (pumas tend to eat raccoons) to attack them and they have more options for food. Since they often live in forests, they are usually in the presence of birds. Raccoons will sometimes eat these birds when they can, but most of the time they will eat bugs, fish an plants. Some would call them "the world's most omnivorous animal." It has a symbiotic relationship with the Poison Ivy plant called Mutualism. The raccoon eats the berries of the plant and plants the seeds when it poops. They use sexual reproduction and live birth to reproduce.. They have up to 7 babies but usually around 3-4 per litter. Raccoons are typically nocturnal and their iconic,black mask reduces glare and improves night vision. They also have a thick double-coat of fur to keep them warm in Canada's cold climate. They have also adapted to their environment by climbing trees with their sharp claws.

He was found in Stanley park near lots of trees and shrubs. Raccoons tend to thrive in urban areas and lush forests. Urban areas usually provide an unintentional food source, like trash or pet food. The climate of British Columbia is perfect for animals such as raccoons. They eat almost anything. They help control the population of bugs and fish. They also spread seeds of the various plants/berries they eat. Their predators include things like pumas or predatory birds. They can adapt to living almost anywhere.
