Great Blue Heron

Ardea herodias

Description:

Here's a Great Blue Heron taking flight. I drifted in the rowboat until I got withing a dozen meters or so. I know I've already posted a spotting of this species, but the other one was taken on the West coast of B.C. This one was taken in Ontario, at my cabin.

Habitat:

Small lake in Ontario

Wonderful! I had a Blue Heron in my yard again at the pond. It ate one of my big favorite goldfish (female). :( The male is left behind and will not eat. But I still think these birds are so cool! Great flying photos!

They eat pond fish so beware! These birds are protected in the USA and are very smart with incredible memory. They eat amphibians and fish equally.
