Tent-making Bat Murcielago acampador

Uroderma bilobatum

Description:

The name Uroderma comes from the Greek oura, tail and derma, skin, (skin in the tail), referring to the tail membrane of this species; bilobatum means two lobes. describing the condition of the first upper incisor teeth. It is a medium-sized bat. It has two well-marked white lines that go from the base of the nose leaf up behind the ear, and two that go from near the corner of the mouth to the base of the ear. It also has another very strong white line from the neck to the back of the neck down the back to the base of the tail membrane. The nose leaf is simple but well developed and ears are brown with yellow or white edges. The eyes are large, the snout is relatively wide and short. The tail membrane is relatively wide. These bats feed mainly on fruits of figs, guavas, bananas, tropical almonds and palms.

Habitat:

Rainforest edges, underneath palm or heliconia leaves .
