Bur Cucumber

Sicyos angulatus

Description:

High climbing vine, densely hairy, with very soft leaves. Notice the flower in center of first photo has 6 petals, was only one I found like that, all other had 5. The fruit was covered with stiff spines. Was found in several places where the canopy opened up, such as along the creek and near a fallen oak. I was thinking it is a Milkvine (Matelea spp.)?

Habitat:

Mixed woods
