Thanks for your help in confirming our friend. We have a number of snakes to identify around our property and we're all novice in our ability to do so. The good news is we have lots of great reptile life, the bad news is they really like to hang out around the front door of our cabin ;-)

Wonderful spotting! Welcome to Project Noah!
This snake is displaying a defense posture by flattening out it's neck to look more intimidating. Hog-nosed snakes are harmless to humans and tend to feed on toads and other amphibians.
