Ringneck

Diadophis punctatus

Description:

Small snake, black or gray in appearance. Distinctive ring around neck matches belly color varying from yellow to orange. Primarily feeds on salamanders, worms and slugs.

Habitat:

Under rocks, logs or loose tree bark.

Notes:

Found this little snake while digging a drainage system around our house. Lots of rocks here on the plateau and these little snakes love to hang out in them!
