Fragrant Water Lily

Nymphaea odorata

Description:

These flowers are peppered around in our lake. They are sometimes called Beaver Root -- I am guessing that that is because beavers will eat the roots -- I have no record to back that up other than my own winter time observations.

Habitat:

Lakes across Canada, the US, and Central America.

Notes:

Photographed over my shoulder while sitting 'shotgun' in a rowboat.
