No Jemma, not a King bolete. Very different cap shape, color etc. I have those here. Yes, Mark, a brute, but none of the boletus group has a lot of meat for it's size - the sponge-like gill area takes up most of the mushroom's bulk. We saw bigger ones in Kruger and I think Zimbabwe(I'll get to those photos in a month or two)

What a brute. Might feed a family for a week. Not much sign of insect activity either.

It was very low to the ground, over a foot across and we saw one in nearby kruger too. That one will come up soon
