White-bellied Slender Opossum

Marmosops noctivagus

Description:

These are small opossums which have a grayer fur than brown as most of the small opossums in this area which have rich brown fur. They are mono colored on the top with white only on the stomach and throat, extending up onto the cheeks. There is black around the eyes. The tale is naked and dark.

Habitat:

These are found in most areas in the Amazon rainforest of SE Ecuador. They can often be found on the ground looking for food but take to the trees when threatened.

Notes:

Always enjoyed seeing these, getting some pictures and then letting them go. Although they appear fierce, I don't remember getting bit more than a time or two, and not hard then. But then I'm old and my memory isn't too good :-)

Hi Neil, Michael and Mark. I don't know how I missed these comments. Thanks so much. They are pretty cool and "mostly" bluff.
