Turdus migratorius
The robin has a gray-brown back and an orange breast.
This robin was observed in close proximity with an Eastern bluebird. They were perched high in a maple tree. This was in a suburban neighborhood within the drainage basin for the Tennessee River. A small tributary, Bradford Creek, is nearby. There are native deciduous trees and evergreens in the area, as well as cultivated trees at the homes in the area. Gray squirrels, raccoons, opossums, rabbits, deer, foxes, coyotes and many species of birds are in the area.
The robin in the photo and the bluebird were heard making excited calls, and thrashing about high in the tree. It should be noted that both birds have nests nearby . The bluebirds nest in a box attached to a fence about 10 feet from the rose bush where the robin has a nest with 4 chicks.
