Prairie Ring-Necked Snake

Diadophis punctatus arnyi

Description:

The ones we found were sometimes this lighter color gray (rather than charcoal), but they all have the yellow ring around the neck and yellow-to-orange/red bellies with black spots. They stink when they musk you! And this one bit me (and it was pretty funny to see). (They're non-venomous and bites dont break the skin.)

Habitat:

Missouri Ozarks, forest, leaf-litter.
