Berberis thunbergii
This invasive species has bright red berries and green leaves. Japanese barberry is a bush with thorns. It was growing near a rock that was covered in moss. It was in the sunlight. It grows in a lot of places in Islesboro, Maine. The place I found it was in the school grounds.
The Japanese barberry bush I found was right next to the forest. It was also next to a rock covered in a moss. It was on the Islesboro Central School grounds.
The Japanese barberry is in the top right hand corner. It is the red berries and green leaves on a brown stem
