Yellow Tabebuia

Tabebuia aurea

Habitat:

Native to South America. Grown as street median, road side, and lawns ornamental, here in South Florida.

Notes:

There are probably a few different species planted in south Florida and its difficult to tell them apart when they are in full bloom, as the leaves offer clues. I think we have mostly T. chrysotricha and T. aurea in my neighborhood. I suspect most of the ones I've seen are like the one in my photo are "Silver-Trumpet, or Caribbean Tabebuias". The leaves of these are narrower and more silver green color. They have a few common names that are probably used interchangeably between species making ID confusing. So, I used a common name that was most accurately descriptive. Anyway, they bursts of golden yellow cheer up the landscape as you drive along this time of year.
