Carmel Garlic

Allium carmeli

Description:

This species of garlic, first described by the Swiss botanist Boissier, is found in northern regions of Israel, Syria and Lebanon. As its name suggests, it was first described from the Carmel mountains. Curiously, this population for which the entire species was named differs from other populations in its colour: its flowers are cream-coloured, whereas in other regions of Israel and elswhere Carmel garlic blooms in bright fuchsia pink.

Habitat:

Mediterranean garrigue
