Aggressive arachnid slightly larger than a quarter. Became interested and reached out with legs towards my camera as I got within 2cm macro range.

Neoscona sp., I think it is Neoscona crucifera. You may want to re-look at other species in the genus as well. http://bugguide.net/node/view/28154

It's an orb weaver. Which specific type, I don't know. There are lots.
