Cyphonocerus ruficollis
Aside from their biolumiscence, these tiny creatures are still very fascinating in several other ways which often times may easily go unnoticed. Fireflies stop glowing as usual and seek for cover as soon as they discern human presence. If disturbed, a firefly will release a gas with a pungent smell to put off predators, but is often less toxic to humans. If threat lingers (or is captured), a firelfy may play possum (act dead) for a while, only to spring up moments later to make good its escape.
