Citrus swallowtail

Papilio demodocus

Description:

Big butterfly with wide strong wings. Often spotted around big fruit trees like orange and mango trees, browsing for flowers to pollinate or scouting for a good spot to lay an egg (one egg per tree). Learnt it has no natural enemy as it is toxic, and so is it's caterpillar. Photos reveal the main source of its powerful propulsion- its fore wings. It beats them very hard to fly while the hind wings are virtually motionless.

Habitat:

Mostly seen around citrus trees
