Crested Hawk Eagle

Nisaetus cirrhatus

Description:

A beautiful Crested Hawk Eagle (also known as Changeable Hawk Eagle) spotted in Yala National Park, Sri Lanka. I think it is the Nisaetus cirrhatus ceylanensis subspecies that is endemic to Sri Lanka. This race has a proportionally longer crest on average than the nominate race, with a similar crest length to it at about 10 cm.

Wetlands / light forest
