White-Tailed Deer (hoof-print) by Megan B

Odocoileus Virginianus

Description:

The smallest of the three members of the deer family in MI. Found throughout the state, deer are considered big game animals. They can be anywhere from 125-225 lbs with a red-brown coat (summer) and grayish coat (winter). The name refers to the white bobbed tail they have, usually flipped up and very visible when they run. Notes:

Three white-tailed deer ran across the Interlochen campus (in front of TJ, past the Scholar Shop and across the road). I wasn't able to get a picture of them when they went by but I came back out with a camera later and managed to find some of the hoof prints in the grass.
