Long-tailed macaque

Macaca fascicularis

Habitat:

Town centre

Notes:

The long-tailed macaques of Lopburi are famous in Thailand. Everyday they roam through the town and head towards the ruined Khmer temple in the centre, where they are fed by tourists and locals alike. This is a wild population of monkeys that has completely adapted to the urban environment. Each November, there is a feast provided for the monkeys, believed to bring good luck for those who donate food.
