Spoonbill; Espátula

Platalea leucorodia

Description:

These are presumably "wandering spoonbills" or maybe late "passage migrants". There are several hundred breeding pairs in the south of Spain and a similar number of migrants along the east coast but this is the first and only time I have seen them here. They flew in as I was leaving so I returned to the platform to take more pictures.

Habitat:

Coastal marshes

Thanks, Argy, I finished uploading now, internet went off momentarily while I was selecting missions and it said problem saving. Informative description has now been added.

Must be strong pair bonding in this genus. I nearly always see them in 2's. Beautiful birds.
