Diadophis punctatus
Smallest one I have seen! Dark gray back with a bright orange belly used to try and ward off predators. There is an orange ring around the neck.
Found under a log in a pine forest right next to a wetland.

Yep! They commonly curl up the tail to show the underside that way, I think this guy was a little confused haha. This is what they usually do with the tail, http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/399...
So this little guy is actually turning over it's belly to show the orange? Wow...if you hadn't written that I would've thought it was an orange snake!
So cute Ashley ,it's funny that i spotted a baby snake too :-)
Most snakes are harmless, Leuba :) Though if I were to come to your part of the world I would certainly not be picking up much haha
I'd love to be able to go snake spotting with you Ashley - you brave thing ! this one is really attractive.
