Red-bellied Snake

Storeria occipitomaculata

Description:

These small, non-venomous snakes are 20 and 40 cm in length. They may be brown or reddish-brown and some are gray. Upper body may have three or four stripes that run along the body. The underside is often bright red but may be more muted in some individuals.

Habitat:

Often found in habitats that consist of moist soils, such as those found in forests and wetlands. I spotted this one crossing a road that ran through a wetland.
