Taxonomic position - Insecta: Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Pentatomoidea: Pentatomidae: Pentatominae: Antestiini. Plautia fimbriata, a name still widely used for this species, is a primary junior homonym and hence invalid. Source: http://www.nbaii.res.in/Pestsofcrops/Pla.... Pentatomids produce odors from thoracic glands for self-defense, thus the English name. Other Common Names: Shield Bugs (but mostly used to refer to Acanthosomatidae and thus not recommended). Habitat:

Backyard garden. Seen on a pod of a Peacock Flower or Philippine Fire Tree plant (Caesalpinia pulcherrima). Spotted at Biñan Laguna, Philippines.
