Jewelweed, touch-me-not

Impatiens capensis

Description:

Medium sized herbaceous plant with seed pods that explode on contact, helping to disperse the seeds. Common thought wetlands of the northeast. However, I have never seen this color pattern in the flowers. Jewel weed flowers are typically yellowish orange with a single hue throughout. I thought the deeper red color of these flowers was interesting.

Habitat:

Freshwater wetlands.
