Carpenter Bee

Description:

Big black blue bee with blueish, purple green shine on its wings. About 7cm.

Habitat:

Our garden, near Mangroves and Jungle in Phuket, Thailand.

Notes:

I heard this bee buzzing from a mile away. It seemed to not be able to lift itself of the ground, so I picked it up and put it on higher ground so it could lift of. It did so several times but always ended back on the ground in the same predicament. It looked like it had crawled out of the ground, had sand stuck on his body. It kept washing itself and cleaning its wings with his hind legs! Very interesting.

:-) Thanks ChunXingWong. It's not the Bees fault that it isn't cute and cuddly looking....still worth saving. :-)
