Leaf Mantis

Choerododis stalii

Description:

This mantis that was 2.5-3 inches long. The dorsal covering of this insect is shaped and colored like a green leaf.

Habitat:

This one was under a light on the end of a cement block building located in the Amazon rainforest of SE Ecuador.

Notes:

Just goes to show, even the best mimic sticks out when in the wrong surroundings. When in the jungle, they are almost impossible to find unless they move or you see them fly into an area and are patient enough to hunt them out. Really cool.

Done. I didn't know there was such a mission. I have other mantids I'll be adding as I go and will certainly add them. Thanks for the heads up.
