Syrphid Fly

Copestylum fraudulentum

Description:

Short and stout brown and yellow fly that mimics a bee. It has a light colored face and brown veining on the wings. There are two bold spots on the thorax. This fly was sadly deceased on my sidewalk; however, I realized the dark veining was different than I've seen before so I took a quick photo with my phone. When I returned with my camera, it was gone.

Habitat:

It was on a sidewalk next to a native plant garden that includes coast sage scrub and oak woodland plants.

Notes:

A first for Project Noah and BugGuide!
