Syrphid Fly

Copestylum sp.

Short and stout brown and yellow fly the mimics a bee. It has a light colored face and brown veining on the wings. There are two bold spots on the thorax. First time I've seen this fly and need to collect it next time (if there is a next time).

It was on a sidewalk next to a native plant garden that includes coast sage scrub and oak woodland plants.
