To feed they swing their bills back and forth to catch invertebrates. They have the winter plumage with their heads being gray. During breeding season adult heads are a rusty color. The body is white and wings are black and white. They have dark, long, upturned bills and long light colored legs.
At the end of Graveyard Slough on Lake Lewisville. It is on its fall migration.
