Description:

Large black sea-bird. Its feathers are not waterproof and it must spend time drying them out after spending time in the water.

Habitat:

California Cental valley Delta area

Notes:

They just love this post.... can just about count on seeing one drying there any day Thanks again Ashley Yes Jellis, I have seen them swimming and thought at first it was a snake

Plus in California this species is the only one that you will see inland. The others species similar to this maybe found in the bay but mostly on the coast.

Most of the body feathers are not waterproof so you will usually see them on branches, posts, towers with their wings up and speading to dry them out. When swimming you will see their necks and head more then their bodies.
