I always try to go early in the morning, before the crowds get there. Or, you can walk the lowland trails, which are usually less crowded.

I was very lucky to find this little guy. I had walked ahead of my family by about 40 feet and saw movement when I looked down. The snake was gliding through the leaves just off-trail, so I grabbed blindly in the leaf pile and came up with it. I wish I had gotten a few shots of it out of my daughter's hand.

Fontenelle Forest is a really neat place, and I would certainly return if in the area again. I just hope next time the Sunday morning trails aren't filled with noisy children. I couldn't believe that people would pay to be there and then whoop and holler the whole time. :-/

Cool. Fontenelle Forest is one of my favorite haunts. I've never seen a snake like that, though.
