Pointed Ciliate Blue

Description:

Male ♂ The butterfly has upper wings are bright metallic blue with a hint of brown on it and the base of the hind wing. It also has two tiny distinctive, pointed tails on the tornus of the hind wing. The underside is light brown and is prominently speckled. It has three tornal black spots. Fore wing is distinctly narrower and more acute at apex and the hind wing more acutely angulated at the tornus. The hind wing has a large black or dark brown white-encircled spot touching vein 7 near its base. The discal and terminal transverse bands has pale or white edgings much more broken, irregular and confused. Female ♀ It is maroonish brown with a touch of purple on the basal area. Undersides are similar as the male.

Habitat:

It has a rapid flight. The male is often seen settled on damp earth. Female is rare and only settles on flowers and bushes. this butterfly is common all over the island but especially in the southern side, up to elevations of about 2500 feet.
