Script lichen

Graphis scripta

Description:

A large patch of the lichen. A crustose lichen with a cream colored thallus. The raised fruiting bodies are slender and elongated which resemble scribbles on the bark.

Habitat:

Spotted on an Alder tree along the Snoqualmie Valley Trail. Cascade foothills. Not far from the Snoqualmie River.

Thank you Mark and Neil. Neil - I don't find script lichen that often here in Washington, but when I do it always varies in appearance.
