Banded Phintella Jumping Spider (♂)

Phintella vittata

Description:

This is a jumping spider that i found on the tree in my backyard. It is a male of Phintella vittata. Its body is blueish-green in color, has black markings on the dorsal and lateral cephalothorax, and 3 black bands on the abdomen. The size of this spider is about 6 mm in length.

Habitat:

- Spotted on the jack-fruit tree in my backyard. Usually, it can be found around the garden and bushes.

Notes:

- This spider is from the family of Salticidae (jumping spiders). This species is able to detect ultraviolet light from the so-called UVB band (315–280 nm) and have specialized surfaces on their bodies to reflect it. The reflection of UVB radiation by males during courtship has been shown to enhance their ability to attract females.
