Red Banded Aemillia Tiger Moth

Pseudohemihyalea ambigua

Description:

Red and white stripped Tiger Moth. The underwings are white with a red border.

Habitat:

The first two pictures are of a specimen that came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters. The 3rd picture is of a specimen photographed on 17 May 2013, same place as the first 2 pictures. The last 3 pictures were taken on 25 March 2014 (in the same place).

Notes:

This species is reported from Colorado to northern Mexico, but it seems to be as far south now as Chiapas. I have seen it occasionally over the past years.

Thank you bayucca for your identification. I can only find a report for as far south as Durango, northern mexico, but we definently have it here in Chiapas.

Arctiidae, Arctiinae, Arctiini, Pseudohemihyalea ambigua. Need to be verified, if range for Mexico is OK.
